Globally, Asia leads in natural cosmetics sales with a global market share of 37 percent, followed by Europe with 21 percent and United States with 17 percent. Within Europe, more than 70 percent of the estimated 2.5 billion euros sales for natural cosmetics are in Western Europe. Germany, with sales of 815 million euros and a market share of 6.5 percent, led sales in Europe in 2011, according to the Natural Cosmetics Report 2012. Meanwhile, in France, which holds four percent of the cosmetics market overall, natural cosmetics are moving from specialty venues into the mainstream. In Italy, the market for certified natural cosmetics reached a volume of between 280 and 290 million EUR and a market share of about three percent. Unipro estimates sales of natural beauty care there in 2012 at about 400 million euros. Certified natural cosmetics in Italy are sold primarily via organic food shops and organic supermarkets.
