AMAP, a community supported agriculture project started in Benin 2008,  now offers its first officially certified organic fruits and vegetables. More than 200 families use the service, which distributes about 1.3 tonnes fo vegetables and 460 KG of fruit every week at two pick-up locations twice each week. About 100 farmers, half of whom employ at least one agricultural worker, supply the project from a total of 12.5 hectares of organic farmland. One challenge for the project is most of the farmland belongs to thrid parties. The Swiss organization Helvetas helps the farms obtain organic certification through the participant guarantee system.
