Canada and Switzerland have an organic equivalency agreement in place, which will simplify trade between the two countries. Certified organic “live or unprocessed agricultural products and vegetative propagating material and seeds for cultivation” and processed agricultural products for food or feed are accepted in Switzerland if they originate and are processed in Canada, Switzerland or the European Union. Similarly, certified organic plant or animal products which are produced and processed in Switzerland, and/or; processed in Switzerland with certified organic ingredients from the EU or Canada can be sold in Canada. Some products, including wine and multi-ingredient products with ingredients from outside Canada, Switzerland or the EU, are outside the scope of the agreement. Other labeling requirements of each country must also be honored.
