China requires overseas food manufacturers, processing and storage companies to complete a registration procedure with the Certification and Accreditation Administration of PRC (“CNCA”) before their food products can be imported into China. The registration must be renewed every four years, and those who fail to comply with regulations face stiff fines. In addition, the State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (the “AQSIQ”) is scrutinizing the labeling of pre-packed food products imported into China for the first time, and has the right to request the business license of the importer, distributor or agent.
