On February 13, 2013, the European Commission amended the regulations for imported organic products in “Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No. 125/2013.” The amendment updates the list of third countries whose system of production and control measures for organic production of agricultural products are recognized as equivalent in Regulation (EC) No. 834/2007. In particular, the list of recognized certification bodies has been updated and expanded, and two countries had changes to the list of organic products that can be imported to the “European Union. India can now only import unprocessed plant products, seeds and vegetative propagating materials; processed organic products from India will no longer be approved, due to new guidelines for organic processed products in India. Meanwhile, the amendment will now allow imports of processed organic products from Japan, including food prepared with ingredients imported from countries Japan recognizes as equivalent.
