According to the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements, the proposed revisions to the current organic regulations (EC 834/07) would require conversion of an entire holding to organic, would require 90 percent of feed for herbivores to be from the same farm or region, as well as making changes to conversion from land that has not been treated. Furthermore, retailers and wholeslaesr would have to be certified, operators except for primary producers would be required to measure their environmental performance and organic food could be fortified (such as by adding vitamins to cereal). In addition, the rpoposed changes would include group certification, giving smallholders in Europe greater access to organic production. Read the draft regulation.
