As part of producing a report, the European Parliament in early December held a hearing on proposed changes to the organic regulations. Presenters included Felix Prinz zu Löwenstein, Chairman of the Bund Ökologische Lebensmittelwirtschaft; .Jürn Sanders, Federal Research Institute for Rural Areas, Forestry and Fisheries; Etienne Gangneron, Chairman of Agence BIO; Isabella Übertsberger, organic farmer and member of Bio Austria Youth Network; and Elia Rodriguez Alvarez, organic farmer and representative of Galician Peasants Union. The points made during the hearing included concern that a new regulation out create legal uncertainty and discourage farmers from converting to organic methods. The International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements reports that the EU Commission will take a fresh look at the proposal.
