In the past decade, sales across the organic sector have tripled to €7.55 billion, with €2.5 billion in retail sales in Germany in 2013. Organic product sales in the first six months of 2014 grew as well. More new organic shops opened in Germany as well: 105 new organic stores opened in 2013, 30 per cent more than the previous year. New stores average in size between 450 and 500 square meters, indicating a shift toward organic supermarkets. Germany’s Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture reports that 23 per cent of the under 30-year-olds say they buy organic food more frequently.
