The Irish Times reports that a record number of farms in Ireland have applied to the Department of Agriculture for the organic program. Of the 870 applications, 504 were farms switching to organic for the first time. Increased interest in organic farming is attributed to improvements in the country’s organic program, including higher incentives and improved options for horticulture and tillage farmers.
