Despite the economic woes of the time, ecological and local food production and distribution in Spain continues to increase 6-10%. The majority (80%) of Spanish organic produce is exported, primarily to Germany, the United kingdom, France, Italy and Holland. Most exports are fresh, non-processed foods such as fruit, vegetables, and nuts which are not grown in northern climates. Meanwhile, Spanish natural and organic products retailer EsdeRaíz hopes to make high quality sustainable products more widely available by offering the products for sale online.
