Major supermarket chains are reporting significant increases in organic sales in the first half of 2014, in part due to an increase in supply. Sales are up 43 percent at Ica; and Axfood, which owns the Willys and Hemköp chains, showed a 35 percent increase. Organic certification organization Krav anticipates sales for 2014 will be up 30 percent from last year, which showed a 13 percent increase over 2012. Organic products are approximately four percent of the food market in Sweden. Dairy sales have been up and down in recent years, with the largest dairy producer in Sweden, Arla, showing a 37 percent increase in the first six months of 2013, following a period of reduced demand in 2012. Organic milk is often a gateway product in part because it is priced close to non-organic milk in Sweden, and organic dairy sales are about one-third of the organic market.
