Organic food made or sold in the United Arab Emirates must be certified by an approved certification organization. For local goods, that means certification by the federal Emirates Authority for Standards and Metrology (ESMA); imported products must meet Ministry of Environment and Water rules and be certified by a ministry approved certifier. Organic imports that are not certified will be stopped at port, reports Gulf News; uncertified local organic foods will be  seized. Approximately 4286 hectares were farmed organically in the UAE in 2014, up from 200 hectares in 200. As more local organic foods have become available, prices have come down.
