Sales of organic packaged foods in the United Arab Emirates is expected to reach $18 million in 2014, reports the Gulf News. Prepared baby food as the leading organic packaged food category, and as much as 40 percent of prepared baby food sales are organic. An increase in organic food sales since the 2008 economic downturn is likely to continue, due to growth in the economy, higher income levels and expatriates who are more aware of organic food. Organic Foods and Café, with five stores, is planning to expand, and anticipates 10 percent increase in revenue in the coming year. Supermarkets are the leading sales channel for organic products, but the few specialty stores carry a broader selection of organic products.
