According to The Grocer, organic food and drink sales, except baby food, were up 2 percent in the 12 weeks ending April 14, 2013, and have accelerated, up 3.7 percent in the 12 weeks ending May 12, and 4.2 percent in the 12 weeks before June 9. Meanwhile, the total grocery market in the 12 weeks before June grew only 3.1 percent. Increases were attributed primarily to strong brand performances, fallout from concerns about horsemeat sold as beef, the renewed debate about GMO foods.
