The International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) elected a new world board in October during its general assembly in Istanbul. Board members include: Roberto Ugas (Peru), Gabriela Soto (Costa Rica), Eva Torremocha (Spain), Manjo Smith (Namibia), Frank Eyhorn (Swizzerland), Matthew John (India), Andre Leu (Australia), Peggy Miars (USA), Gerold Rahmann (Germany) and Zhou Zejiang (China). Board members serve for three year terms. Andre Leu will be president of the board for the third time. IFOAM’s World Board is democratically elected and governs the organization’s strategic development. A new strategy for the next three years will be developing the mountain regions in Mepal, Pakistan, Kirgizia, Ethiopi and Peru. In addition, political advocacy on the international level and cummunicating the importance of family farms will be a focus.
