The latest report form the Textile Exchange, Farm & Fiber Report 2011-12, highlights not only organic cotton production but also some of the need for quality non-GMO seed and other issues facing organic producers.  In 2011-2012, India produced 74 percent of the world’s organic cotton, and retained its number one position yet again. Despite an 8 percent drop in production worldwide, Nicaragua showed a 190 percent increase in production and Tanzania’s production grew 153 percent.
