The Minister of Consumer Affairs for the German state of Baden-Württemberg reported that half of organic carrots and apples and 80 percent  of organic tomatoes have to be imported since demand for organic goods exceeds local supply. About 7.9 percent of total agricultural area in the state is used for organic agriculture.
