Grain and pulse production leads in Lithuania’s organic sector, with up to 35,000 tons of grains and pulses exported each year. About 5.2 percent, or 99410 hectares, of the country’s farmland is fully converted to organic production, of which 21 percent is pasture. In 2010, there were 70 organic processors. Of the organic area in the country, 75 percent is arable land, and 90 percent of that is dedicated to grains and pulses. Average expenditure on organic food is just over 2 euros, and shoppers can find a wide range of Lithuanian organic products in the supermarket chain “Maxima.”
