The organic market has been growing steadily, and reached US$550 million in 2011, an 8 percent increase, according to Abras, a trade association in Brazil. More than 56 percent of Brazilian domestic sales take place in the state of São Paulo. The export market is also growing, with a group of 70 orgnaic companies in Organic Brazil selling about $212 million in 2012, a new record for the group. Orgnaic farmland is also rising, with approximately 2.8 million hectares in organic production. Brazil is the world leader in organic sugar exports, but over 15,000 organic products are registered with the agricultural authority in Brazil.
