The consumer group Consumers Korea examined 50 supposedly organic cosmetic brands (24 local and 26 imported) and found 35 brands that violated the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety’s Cosmetics Act and its Advertising and Displaying Guidelines for Organic Cosmetics. Among the violations: 21 brands did not state the percentage of organic ingredients in their products and 11 wrongly labeled the products as organic even though the percent of organic ingredients was far too low (only 10 percent vs. The required 95 percent) to use that label. The government’s Korea Consumer Agency has called for the brands to make corrective actions.
