Over the past 20 years, organic agriculture in Mexico has expanded more than 15 percent each year, and the country is 15th in organic production globally valued at 8.9 million pesos in 2012. Exports, primarily to the United States and Europe, account for 83 percent of the market. Approximately 90 percent of the agriculture is small farms of less than 3 hectares.
