Land devoted to organic production in the United Kingdom fell 3.9 percent in 2013 to 551 thousand hectares, while acreage in conversion to organic methods fell 24 percent to 24 thousand hectares. Livestock production, except poultry, was also down. Organic sheep and pig numbers both fell by 13% to 1 million and to 30 thousand head respectively. The number of organic cattle fell by 2.4% to 283 thousand. Organic poultry production was up 1.2 percent. For the fifth year in a row, the number of organic producers and processors to around 6100 at the end of 2013, down 6.4 percent.
