Draft regulations on ecology and the environment, set to take effect later this year in Shenzhen, would levy the country’s highest fines for improper labeling of genetically modified food, reported the South China Morning Post. Businesses that sell or produce GM food must register with the municipal food safety department and label the ingredients clearly. Those that don’t could face fines of approximately US$16,000 (RMB100,000).
