Organic produce is approximately one percent of produce sales in the Czech Republic, even though most supermarkets now offer some organic produce, often priced 100 percent more than non-organic products. The top selling organic products are dairy products, at 20 percent of organic sales, followed by fruit and vegetables and then meat. Of those who buy organic products, 60 percent buy from a farmer’s market or direct from a farm. Most people do not buy organic products, primarily due to the high price. One-third of consumers buy because organic products taste better and are fresher; about a third buy because organic products are free of pesticides and are perceived as healthier as a result.
